It's just days!

First it was years, months, weeks and now just days. I cannot believe at this time next week, we will be in China.  After 2 trips to Target and looking over the list several times, I think we have everything we need. This weekend was truly great.  The weekend started off with dinner with really great friends, then I spent time with some other great friends who also happen to be great colleagues. Today our Sunday school class spent some time praying for us.  We have been so supported and encouraged and we know that the Lord has really been in control of this.

So, we will be flying direct to Guangzhou from Los Angeles and then we will connect to Wuhan.  The next day (Monday)  we will be united with our son, Jackson. We will stay in Wuhan for about 5 days and then fly back to Guangzhou for another 5 days. The Low family of 3 will stay in Los Angeles for a few days so that Jackson can meet Yeh-Yeh, Ng-Ng, great grandmothers, aunties, uncles and cousins. I am exhausted thinking about it!

Books, books and more books!

In another week or so schools will be celebrating "Read Across America."  This is a great time to celebrate the love of reading.  What book are you reading right now?
This is the book I am reading right now. A good friend let me borrow it.  I am about half way through it and I hope to finish before we leave for China. Jackson has received a lot of books as gifts. I hope that we will be able to instill in him the love of reading. Jeff said he has so many books that he expects him to read in six months!

Valentine's Day

Today we had our first Mandarin lesson.  Goodness, it is hard!  Now I know how ELL students feel!!! We had a 30 minute lesson and I was so exhausted.  I must practice a few times a day.  Some of the words sound similar to the words in Cantonese but the tones and accents are hard. I am not even sure if Jackson will understand our Chinese. Lesson #2 is next week and hopefully it will get better....we don't have a choice, we are leaving soon! I know Jackson will learn English quickly but I really want him to maintain some Chinese.  I am not sure how that will happen but I know it is important. On another note, I went to the doctor and I just found out that my Lupus is almost in remission. Praise God for this.  It has almost been one year since I got really sick and diagnosed with it.Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

Happy Valentine's to all!

eggs, noodles, tofu and fish

We received news about Jackson.  We were able to ask his care takers some questions.  One question was about food. Well, I think Jackson is going through a white food phase.  He is eating eggs, noodles, tofu and fish. I have heard that kids go through these kind of food phases. How long does it last? I don't know if I went through a food phase.  All I remember is that I ate whatever was in front of me. My parents did not make my siblings and I special individualized meals.  So, to this day, I am not a picky eater and Jeff will eat almost anything too...we can only hope Jackson is the same.
Chinese translations are funny and the caretakers also stated that Jackson likes to play with balls, cars and new toys. Hmmmm...does that sound familiar? I think it runs in the family. I have a feeling if this is true, Jackson and daddy will be spending a lot of time in the garage, at the playground and the toy store!
